WHEN DARKMAI MET AURORAMAI
DarkMai Eclipse is a brand new steel, built by crossing two of our favorites: DarkMai and Elite AuroraMai. You get the dark, moody steel of DarkMai with a bright band of Coppermascus® running through the middle, framed top and bottom by solid nickel shims. Dark steel on the outside, copper glowing through the center. That's the eclipse.
The Build
From the outside in: 1084 cladding, a nickel shim, a layer of Coppermascus®, a second nickel shim, and a solid 1084 core, mirrored on the other side. Forged out in a wavy pattern so the copper,nickel and Damascus move across the flats. When you grind your bevels, the solid 1084 core becomes your cutting edge. 1084 is simple and forgiving to heat treat, gets hard and holds an edge, so this one is a working steel, not just a pretty one.
Built to Your Size
This isn't a normal drop, and there's no fixed batch list. Pick the length, width and thickness your build needs, and we'll make it to order.
Length: 8" to 18", every inch
Width: 1.5" to 3", in 1/4" steps
Thickness: six ranges, from 0.250"-0.220" down to 0.110"-0.100". Your bar will finish somewhere inside the range you pick.
Each bar is priced by the cubic inch based on the size you pick. Bars ship flat ground and fully annealed.
Limited Run
We're capping this batch. Once we hit our bar limit, pre-orders close early, even if it's before Saturday. If you want one, don't wait on it.
Etching
Gator Piss® Heavy brings out strong contrast between the dark 1084 and the copper/nickel. Keep your etch times controlled so the copper stays bright.
Good to Know
Pre-orders close Saturday, October 24 at 8 PM ET, or sooner if the batch fills. Production starts right after, and bars are expected to ship 8-12 days after close.
This steel contains copper. Copper laminates are not recommended for laser cutting. Water jet or hand cutting works best.
