So what is Hitachi Blue steel?  (Heat treat info can be found here from the HITACHI company. Just be sure to temper immediately after quench)

Blue Steel is one of the greatest Japanese Carbon Steels.

Blue steel is an alloy steel made of White Steel, (a carbon steel with low content of impurities), mixed with tungsten and chromium.  It produced by Hitachi Metals Ltd which one of the top manufacturers of high grade metal products.

This steel is sought after and made from Japanese pure sand irons at their famous Yasugi plant in Shimane Prefecture. It has 1.10 ~1.20 high carbon with 0.20 ~0.50 Chromium and 1.00 ~1.50 Tungsten at Rockwell Rc.61~62

Blue steel holds its edge longer than a white steel knife. Feature of Blue Steel are excellent cutting performance, retain maximum sharpness and easy to sharpen. The added elements of tungsten and chromium bring better corrosion resistance and edge retention (as well as deeper hardening).

The tungsten added to the steels leads to the formation of very hard tungsten carbides for steels that can be as wear resistant as air hardening steels like D2 or M2 but with the ability to normalize and anneal the steels without precise temperature control.

Yall it doesnt get much better then this! We decided to take the leap and switch up our traditonal triple alloy coppermascus. We took out the 15n20 steel and replaced it with pure 200 nickel. The result was a totally different look! And boy does it rock the house!

Even better, this stuff is SUPER easy to finish out. The nickel stays shiny and bright no matter how much acid you etch it in. Perfect contrast has never been easier to attain!

Specs:

- Copper/1084/Nickel blend (Elite) Coppermascus cladding with an Hitachi Blue #2 core

- Flat Ground Finish

- All bar edges are ground back to 100% clean steel

- Billets come fully annealed
