The new year has already been good to us, there is a strong sense of big things coming, even within our tight-knit staff. As we all collectively tackle the return to full production after the holidays, everyone is operating at full capacity across their stations. The week began with some big custom orders, and as the production staff pounded away, administration was working on a handful of new product offerings we have in the works. Perhaps the largest news to sneak out of the New Year buzz was mention of our new developments in stainless damascus. A long sought-after addition to our impressive product lineup, stainless damascus has been heavy on our minds as we refine our processes in advance of a public release. While many rested and spent time with loved ones over the holiday, the Baker brothers Jay & Coy delved into some personal time in the shop, challenging themselves and dialing an efficient process for manufacturing this new (to us) product. The result was a monumental step forward toward public release, and based on the video we put up of Baker Boss, Coy on wednesday regarding the subject, ya’ll shouldn’t be waiting too long before our brand new Baker Forge Stainless Damascus will be available!
With the slate of custom orders fulfilled, our production team jumped into a little traditional damascus restock. We’ve noticed this standard damascus is popular for our customers and will be working harder to both toss it in the rotation of weekly drops, as well as trying for a little maintained stock on the website.
While we sweated over forges in the confines of our HQ, snow began to fall outside, and by the end of the day on Monday we had received enough snow to qualify as the largest accumulation of the winter months so far. As prepared as us Appalachian folk were, even the trace of some good snow resulted in a mess of traffic, accidents, and issues across our little town of Boone. Media-Guy, Waylon even snapped this quick shot of our neighborhood UPS driver stuck and blocking his drive home from work. Despite the obvious challenges, there is certainly something unifying about a good snow storm, and after the last weather event, this certainly pales in comparison.
Although we have our heads down and noses to the grindstone in these opening weeks of 2025, we trust you’ll hold-your-horses and brace yourself for all of the developments that will soon roll out of our mountain shop over the next few months. Until then, it’s the same exciting weekend drops and tantalizing layouts you’ve come to expect from Baker Forge.
Inside the Media
Early in the week Carson from Forged AF sent over a gorgeous blade he worked up for Shop Manager, Jay. The steel is a CopperMai Stitch Shim that hasn’t been released to the public, a perk of making knives commissioned by our head of the production team. Carson couldn’t have done a better job highlighting the unique and raw look of this particular bar of stitch shim, and if you missed it you should definitely give it a look over on our @TeamBakerSteel page on IG.
Our YouTube video detailing some of our behind-the-scenes developments in Stainless Damascus just dropped today. In it you’ll have a chance to hear about the development, sneak peeks on future drops, and get all the nitty-gritty on what materials we chose as part of the layout and why. You can find it here!
